For the year ending 2023, the Kenyan Government, in line with its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), introduced Universal Health Coverage which led to various reforms in the health sector such as introduction of Social Health Insurance (SHI) Act 2023, whose cornerstone is the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Effective 1st October, 2024, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will be transitioning to the Social Health Authority (SHA) and all Kenyan citizens, including dependants are required by law to register as members of SHA in order to avoid any disruptions in healthcare coverage.
Important Information
SHA rolls out on 1st October, 2024 and 30th September, 2024 will be the last day of submission for NHIF.
All payments made on or before 9th October 2024 will be credited to NHIF. While payments made from 9th November 2024 onwards will be credited to SHA.
Employers portal for managing employees’ SHI contributions will be https://sha.go.ke/
Employer Portal Functions:
- Employee Registration: Register your employees and their dependents with SHA.
- Contribution Remittance: Make SHI contributions on behalf of your employees.
- Generate Reports: Access and download contribution statements and other reports.
- Update Employee Information: Manage changes in employee details or dependents.
Accessing and Using the Portal:
- Create an Account: Visit the SHA website and create an employer account.
- Verify Your Account: Follow the instructions to verify your account.
- Add Employees: Enter your employees’ details and register them with SHA.
- Make Contributions: Use the portal to remit SHI contributions on time.
